Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his future after another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the team's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Response
The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell of this nature with performances like these.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to where it needs to be, prove once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
