Bullish Nancy shows no fear of dismissal but the Parkhead faithful show wrath following derby defeat.

Wilfried Nancy insisted he had no concerns about losing his job, claiming, “We are really close to a turnaround,” in the wake of edging perilously close to the chopping block with a convincing loss to Rangers.

A Second-Half Meltdown Leads to Old Firm Loss

The home side had led their oldest rivals at half-time but a second-half capitulation allowed the Gers to move level on points with the reigning league title holders. Nancy, who was appointed from the MLS, has now been in charge for six losses in his first eight matches.

“We are together at the club,” insisted Nancy.

Questioned about his own future, Nancy said: “That’s not my focus. I think about finding ways to get the team to be good on details.

Protest Erupts

Hundreds of supporters displayed their anger – aimed at the hierarchy – by gathering at full time. The board are reportedly likely to bring back the former boss, who had a fruitful caretaker period before Nancy was hired, if the Frenchman were sacked.

“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. That is the truth for the moment. But in stating that’s how it is, I am not saying that I am a defeatist guy. No. The message is we are on the cusp, extremely close to change the narrative.”

“Really, Really Close”

Nancy continues to cling to the fact his team show good levels for a half at a time. Indeed, if not for poor finishing they would have been more than 1-0 up. “The performance had merit except the fact that we missed more goals,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but it's important to stay objective.

“The performance we had at times was really, really, really high. This is the reality. I could not say that if it was not the case. Therefore, regarding outcomes, I mentioned we've seen this before. That’s why I said that we are nearly there to a shift in fortunes. Currently: the fine margins.”

“I saw plenty of positives that we did, as was the case today. But now is performing for 90 minutes. My narrative would be different the same. That’s why I am a big believer the team can to turn things around.”

Opposition Reaction Stance

Rangers manager refused to contemplate a serious challenge even after what seemed like a huge result. “One match at a time, then we can really build up something here,” he said. “The belief in the group is excellent.”
