From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, demons, and dark forces growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, entering the secret base, striking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the party reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them few options but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the traitor.
What’s Next?
Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Planners parties.
Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
