England’s men’s team will initiate their 2028 European Championship campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, assuming they attain the expected qualification for a championship staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.

City’s stadium has not welcomed an English men’s fixture since May 2016, when Turkey were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is expected to welcome the national team for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.

England are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley, but, should they win their group, their knockout stage opener would occur at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean starting the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.

Championship Opening and Demonstration

The event was unveiled at an event in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the organizing bodies were confronted as they entered the venue by approximately 50 activists, who demanded Israel to be expelled from global football because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were held up with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Fixture List

The inaugural fixture of the European Championship will be held at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a game that will involve Wales if they make it.

Wembley Stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the final, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at 5pm.

It is hoped that an earlier start, which will also be used for European club finals from the upcoming season, will cater to families and help connect with a more diverse set of viewers.

Qualifying Teams

The Republic of Ireland are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Dublin stadium and Scotland would follow suit at the national stadium of Scotland.

Each host nation’s squad will enter the qualifying tournament; two reserved places will be reserved for any that fail to qualify for the finals through the qualification path.

Stadiums and Knockout Stage

Aston Villa’s stadium and Spurs’ ground round out the nine host stadiums. Each one will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarterfinal matches staged at each country’s national stadium.

The qualifying draw will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a tournament location last year when it became clear Casement Park could not be upgraded in time, on 6 December 2026.
