Fans Demand Detainment of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the pop star are urging that a individual who jumped a barricade and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared footage depicts the individual from Australia shoving aside photographers and charging at Grande while the cast made its way down a event pathway flanked by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "released after being arrested", though official papers showed that he was scheduled to attend court on the following morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
History of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram profile features clips of him disrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last winter.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," stated an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user questioned.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Grande's Past Trauma
Many supporters blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote another response on Instagram.
Several attendees also questioned event staff at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while some requested digital services to ban Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande looked startled when she was grabbed by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Hundreds of attendees had gathered in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had waited for as long as eight hours before it started.
The movie, to be premiered on 21 November, is the sequel of a two-part version of the popular theatrical production Wicked, which centers on the unexpected relationship between two contrasting witches.
The show itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and received 10 award recognitions, earning two for outstanding attire and set decoration.
