The former Liverpool manager admits rejoining to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.

Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club remains a possibility. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-year spell featuring continental glory and the Premier League crown in 30 years, currently occupies roles overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and as an advisor for the DFL.

Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments

Liverpool won England's top flight in the previous campaign, though countless followers who revere Klopp would embrace the notion that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he told Steven Bartlett: “I stated I refuse to lead a different club in England. Which implies should it be the Reds...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”

“I’m 58, which suggests I might decide later on, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”

What Would Lure Him Back?

Pressed on which situations would have to unfold to tempt his return to management, he revealed he isn't eager to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for media briefings repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats a week.

“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, however, dining out with the players talking freely, is pleasant. Success was frequent so there was often positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears to illustrate.”

Praise for His Successor

He spoke highly of the current boss, praising him for the tweaks which secured the championship in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in all competitions following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the idea that it might signal the start of a downward turn.

“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, incredible player. It’s a really good balanced team. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they will be fine.”

Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward

Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Diogo Jota, a player he signed during his tenure, and its impact for the team. The forward died tragically in a road accident together with his sibling this past summer.

“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It’s not about his on-field talent, it's his character. I can’t imagine the dressing room missing him. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A profound tragedy for all the boys as well. Not a single person will ever use it to justify results yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Dealing with that emotionally is not easy. Impossible.”
