The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes only eight real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Activities done by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.
Player Reactions: Anger to Support
"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Player Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the community compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
