The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
