The Showrunner Discloses He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Will End... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer could not have predicted that Pluribus would become a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed program coming to an end—and a second season officially in the works—the creative team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

One could easily to get distracted by the constant speculation and fan theories regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“It's like being constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's by design. I have never searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

A Pressing Query: Has Vince Gilligan Know the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff aren’t being guided by audience theories, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… with some caveats.

“There are some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” he states. “yet we stand ready to discard a good idea for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
