The Two Fatalities Revealed in the Providence Campus Incident as Law Enforcement Persist in Hunt for Perpetrator.

Two students who died in the weekend's mass shooting on the university campus had tributes paid to them on Monday – while an intensive search for their shooter continued following the release by local law enforcement of the only individual questioned in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was remembered as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, per the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a gathering on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s division of the College Republicans organization, the group said. The White House press secretary also shared condolences online, stating: “Words cannot express. Remembering her family and friends, above all her mom and dad.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the prestigious university, according to relatives.

The victim's identification was confirmed by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. His ambitions were lofty of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sibling Samira said in a online post.

Details of the Attack

Nine more persons were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Officials stated late Sunday that a 24-year-man detained in a search at a lodging about approximately 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“We have a murderer out there,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last 24 hours or so.”

Public Fear

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “We know that this is likely to cause fresh anxiety for our public”.

The gunman discharged a weapon inside a lecture hall in the engineering building on Saturday, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm handgun, a law enforcement official informed the Associated Press.

Officers that entered the hotel found a pair of pistols and two ammunition clips when the suspect was detained, as was reported.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by Umurzokov’s death in a statement. “Our profound condolences go out to his relatives, friends, and fellow students and grieve for of his bright future.”
