This stands as the last article I am writing before one of two scenarios unfolds: our boat arrives in Gaza, or Israel seizes our ship. We anticipate arriving on the ninth of October, after sailing the ocean starting last month.

Last week witnessed the seizure conducted by Israel the sailors from the initial Global Sumud flotilla just before their scheduled arrival. This is likely the same moment when Israel may attempt to seize our ships belonging to our humanitarian mission.

Sailing Amid Uncertain Waters

Living Conditions Aboard

At this sailing stage, I've created a schedule. My resting pattern includes resting between evening and early morning, then working night watch through early morning, securing additional rest afterwards for a total of five hours. Further sleeping becomes impractical between turbulent waves and regular disruptions from shared accommodation.

My sleeping arrangement consists of a thin padding positioned above the couch in the collective area. Daily I get clothed inside my sleeping bag while someone prepares coffee mere meters away. Certain aspects of coexisting with six other individuals within limited nautical space need substantial acclimation.

The Operation's Goal

The therapeutic resources and child feeding formula stored in the stern cabin and navigation space of our boat could save numerous lives should we achieve our goal. Through a recent conversation, someone suggested they considered our journey representative because prevention looked unavoidable.

Viewed from afar, this interpretation might seem plausible. However, after sailing for over a week with assistance materials surrounding you constantly, familiar with its specific storage, continuing optimism remains crucial for assisting desperate communities.

Transforming Relief Efforts

Yet, providing supplies is not the mission's final objective. Representatives regularly ask why we don't simply permit their distribution of our aid. Apart from warranted concern regarding actual delivery given prolonged restrictions, accepting such arrangements would tacitly accept authority concerning maritime zones.

New details emerged regarding the first mission members: relocation to desert detention, designation as unlawful entrants notwithstanding involuntary transfer beyond territorial limits. Information suggested refusal of basic necessities including water, medicine and food, combined with humiliating conduct and sometimes brutality by detention officers.

Current numbers showed numerous mission members were removed as multiple individuals continued confined.

Broader Context

These circumstances look appalling yet they pale in comparison to the institutional mistreatment experienced by detained Palestinians within the same facilities. Reported examples comprise deadly force leading to mortality absent consequent answerability for involved personnel.

Advocacy institutions have thoroughly documented systematic mistreatment methods and sexual violence incidents inside confinement facilities. Although global attention concerning humanitarian workers' situation remains justified and necessary, comparable focus has been absent regarding Palestinian hardship throughout decades of conflict.

Sunrise Considerations

Daily dawn I behold the endless marine expanse and the descending amber moon ahead of subsequent daylight. This oceanic autonomy to navigate vast waters underscores the crucial understanding that our purpose exceeds assistance.

Autonomy for Palestinian people continues elusive and our own liberties continue restricted unless that independence is accomplished. This basic principle explains our continued sailing. The reasoning proves straightforward.
